9 March -- HIV Treatment Continuity: Reducing Congestion at Health Facilities

Mark your calendars for the next DUC Treatment Continuity call!

Thursday– March 9
8-9:30 am EST; 1-2:30 pm UTC; 2-3:30 pm WAT; 4-5:30 pm EAT

Are you seeing congestion or long wait times in clinics?

Join this session to hear community members in Malawi and Uganda share examples of how data or technology interventions are being used to address congestion or long wait times in clinics. These could include workflow analysis, changing frequency of ARV dispensing, monitoring viral load, scheduling interventions, decentralization of care, community-based care, self-service technologies, or telemedicine.

Goals for this session:

  • Provide a space for peer learning.
  • Build community linkages between teams.
  • Begin to gather common practices, challenges and experiences to be documented in the Technology Intervention Framework.

We are seeking more community members to share their experiences as well. If you are interested in hearing or sharing examples please share in the virtual forum, here.

Join the Data Use Community meeting, Thursday, March 9th 1-2:30 pm UTC for a conversation on how teams are using data and technology to address congestion or long wait times in clinics. Community members will kick off the discussion with presentations on the following:

  1. Lighthouse Trust’s Innovations for Client-Centered Care: Community-based ART Retention and Suppression (CARES) App in Malawi. Lighthouse Trust clinics in Lilongwe, Malawi, use EMRs in static sites. But Lighthouse’s differentiated service delivery (DSD) programs, like its nurse-led community-based ART program (NCAP), do not benefit from EMRs. Lighthouse Trust, ITECH, and Medic, with support from the National Institutes for Health, will share their experience with their Community-based ART Retention and Suppression (CARES) App. CARES aims to provide a high-quality, point-of-care EMRs app in NCAP settings, enabling improved patient care and program-level M&E while reducing workload.

  2. Differentiated Service Delivery Models in UgandaEMR to decongest facilities. Community members in Uganda will share their experience functionalizing the guidelines for Differentiated Service Delivery Models in UgandaEMR as a method for decongesting facilities.
